Emma Peel Leather
These are some of the leather clothes worn by Emma Peel in the early series of the BBC Avengers series.
The most appealing were worn by actress Diana Rigg with those hip hugging Emma Peel leather pants showing all
the curves in the right places (considered very racy for the BBC in those days). Others include the leather
snakeskin hood. We will never know if it was real snakeskin or a very good imitation, but one which will keep the
"greenies" guessing - certainly not "politically correct" in the present day.
Leather pants
For her athletic fight scenes, Diana Rigg became well known for wearing a black Emma Peel leather trouser suit, which
earned the name of "The Emmapeeler". They were created by top fashion designer of the time John Bates and they had a considerable
influence on fashion design from that moment on.
Other leather items
Another favourite was the black long sleeved top with black hipster pants and black and white boots, worn with a
honeycomb patterned head scarf and snakeskin jacket - wow !
And what about the black corset attire laced tightly up the back. The corset was straight across the breast and
embroidered on all the panels, it had a black lace skirt of some four or five inches length which failed to
conceal anything - it just reached the top of the thighs. It was worn with black satin bikini briefs.
This was of course, complemented by a spiked Emma Peel leather collar, complete with silver leash (Mrs Peel held the end of
it herself most of the time) and high stiletto heeled boots which also lace up the back, to match the corset. The overall
effect was sheer "m"-appeal !!

The Avengers film
In the later film, Uma Thurman comes face to face in her Emma Peel leather with knife-wielding nannies, 6-foot teddy
bear-suited ninjas, mechanical killer insects,
and a robotic double of Peel who is determined to destroy the agents. There is a mix of sexual tension, surrealism,
and especially Uma Thurman in a her Emma Peel leather catsuit. It's enough to make you crave
for tea & crumpets.
